Service for William General, 85, of Columbia, South Carolina, will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Chappelle Memorial AME Church 1101 Pine Street Columbia, South Carolina and the burial will be at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens 2603 Two Notch Road Columbia, South Carolina, there will be a viewing on Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Pearson's Funeral Home 4508 N. Main Street Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. General will lye instate on Monday, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Church. He was born on February 16, 1938, in Cayce, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Theodore and Pearlie B. General. He departed his life on October 22, 2023, after a lengthy illness. William General attended Cayce Elementary School;. He then transferred to Lakeview High School where he graduated. While attending Lakeview High School he was a prominent and much celebrated member of the football, basketball, and baseball team. He was credited for scoring twenty two touchdowns in a single season. His record stood for eight years. The football legacy he was involved in produced an undefeated season back-to-back State Championship. He was just as an accomplished baseball and basketball player. He was a member of the Greater Lakeview Alumni Association. In 1953, William General moved from Cayce, SC to Columbia, SC. He was employed by SMI Joist for twenty-four years. He also was employed with Mayflower Van and Storage for nine years. After his retirement he worked part time with Pearson's Funeral Home for many years. William General joined Chappelle Memorial AME Church and was faithful member. He was an active member of the Usher Board. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Brenda Cook, Diane (Larry) LaBrew, and Carl (Tanya) Vant all of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Yvette Vant. Nieces; Audrey (Curtis) Calhoun, Verne (Willie) Muller, Samone Calhoun and Janice Vant; Nephew, Justin (Kristy) Muller. He leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His beloved Goddaughter, Myra Randolph. Special lifelong friends, Melvin "Wink" Jones, Willie Edward Jones, Solomon Jones, Issac Elliott, Sam Livingston, Frances Washington, Robert Spears, Edward Baker, Joseph Diaz, and John and Linda Searles. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of forty-four years, Edith General; his parents Theodore and Pearlie B. General, his siblings, Theodore Jr. and Jimmy General, and Rosa Mae More.
