Virgie Johnson Obituary

Service for Mrs. Virgie Lee Johnson, 88, of West Columbia, South Carolina will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 11:00 am Mt. Pisgah AME Church  129 Dixiana Road West Columbia, South Carolina, with burial in the Southland Memorial Gardens. 700 West Dunbar Road West Columbia, South Carolina. Viewing will be held on Friday from 1:00 to 6:00 pm at the Pearson's Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnson will lye in-state from 10:00 to 11:00 on Saturday before services. Mrs. Virgie Lee Johnson, daughter of the late James D. Johnson Sr. and Janie Lucius, she was born on March 2, 1938, in Lexington County South Carolina. She entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 26, 2026. At a early age she joined Mt. Pisgah AME Church, before moving to Washington, DC. She attended New Bethany Church and Trueway Baptist Church. She worked twenty five years in the DC. Public School System before retiring and worked several years at the Ho lo Caust Museum before returning home to South Carolina. She returned to Mt. Pisgah AME Church where she enjoyed singing and fellowship, with family and friends until her passing. She was a wonderful, mother, grandmother, sister, Aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed by those who loved her. Virgie Lee was preceded in death by her, sisters, Rhudine Johnson, Malba Gillings, Bernice Koger; brother, Cleo Johnson; sister-in laws; Thelma Johnson, Emma Lee Johnson; brother in law, Reverend D. E.L. Koger, Nehemiah Gillins and a devoted friend  Robert Earl. Rhem. She is survived by her son, Frederick Rhem, granddaughter, Aryanna Rhem and friend, Tiffany Nicholson, brothers, James Johnson, Jr., Eugene Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
