Home going celebration for Mrs. Vernetta Bowman Tillman, 73 of Columbia, South Carolina will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am March 6, 2021 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church 1804 Wilkinson Street Cayce, South Carolina with burial to follow in the Southland Memorial Gardens West Columbia, South Carolina. there will be a viewing on Friday from 1:00 to 7:00 pm at the Pearson's Funeral home 4508 N. Main Street Columbia, SC; Mrs. Tillman will be in church one hour before services.Born in Brooklyn, New York. She was the daughter of Mrs. Rosa Mae Bowman and the late Mr. Willie F. Bowman. She departed this life on Sunday February 28, 2021. Mrs. Tillman was educated at Lakeview High School and graduated in 1965. She attended Midlands Technical College, formerly Palmer College, where she studied secretary and administration skills. She worked at Richland School District One and retired after 34 Years. Mrs. Tillman accepted Christ at an early age and attended Calvary Holiness Church. She attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in her later years and was a faithful member of the Usher Board and Various ministries. Mrs. Tillman was united in Holy Matrimony to James P. Tillman September 13, 1969 and five children were born to this union. She enjoyed working in her garden, fishing, cooking and hosting, playing on her iPad, and spending time loving on her family and friends. She was preceded in death by: her father Willie F. Bowman and her brother John Bell. Mrs. Vernetta Bowman Tillman leaves to celebrate her homegoing her husband of fifty years, James P. Tillman of Columbia, SC; two daughters, Sheryl Tillman of Cayce, SC and Michele (Nicholas) Gallman; three sons James (Kimberly)Tillman, of Simpsonville, SC; Johnathan (Lauren) Tillman of FountainInn, SC, and Joshua (Kendra) Tillman of Simpsonville, SC;four sisters, Shirley (Arnold) Carter of Atlanta, Ga, Delma (Talmadge) Foulks of Lexington, SC, Renae Bell of Nashville, TN, and S. Michele (Duane) Everett of Lexington, SC; one brother Marlo (LaWanda) Bowman and nine grandchildren and a host of nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; many other loving relatives and caring friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
