Funeral services for Mrs. Mamie Townsend Holly Cave of 814 Mount Avenue Wyandanch, N.Y. will be held on Saturday November 9, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Jordan Baptist Church 2141 State Road S-6-520 Barnwell, SC Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. She was born January 31, 1927 to the late Rev. Ezekiel Holly and Gussie Hankerson Holly. She was born in the Red Oak Community of Barnwell, SC as were her seven sisters and three brothers. Mamie was reared in a Christian and loving home.Mamie excepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Jordan Baptist Church Where she was a very active member until she moved to New York. After moving to New York she joined the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. She joined Union United Methodist Church in Kline, S.C. upon her return to South Carolina. She was educated in the public Schools of Barnwell County. After high School Mamie attended Benedict College in Columbia, S.C. Years later she received her bachelor degree from the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, N.Y. Mamie was a member of the OES Fidelity Chapter 40. Mamie was married to the late Edward Townsend in 1952 until his death in 1983. To this union three children were born, Sherrell, Lisa and Jennifer. Mamie worked many years in the New York City public school system. After retiring she moved to South Carolina and entered in Holy Matrimony to the late Charlie Garrette Cave in 1985..Garrette's two son's welcomed her into the family. Mamie was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, neighbor and friend to all. She touched the lives of many. She leaves to mourn three daughters, Sherrell Yvette Lane of Wyandanch, N.Y., Lisa Anita Townsend of Woodbridge, V.A., Jennifer Malona Norfleet ( Douglas) of Norfolk, V.A., one son Carlos Cave (Shirl) of Bluffton, S.C. Her dear "adopted daughter" Rose Marie Hankerson of Allendale, S.C., two sisters, Alpha Anderson of Trenton, S.C., and Dorothy Kirby of Columbia, S.C., brother, Benjamin Holly(Elizabeth) of Columbia, S.C., eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, three sister-in-law, and one brother in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and dear friends.
