Main St. Columbia, South Carolina. And Mr. West will be placed in church one hour before services. Born in Richland County the son of the  Bobby Fletcher West and Luvenia Washington.West. On Tuesday morning October 22, 2019, he was called to his eternal rest at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. He was a member of Calvary Holiness Church of God in Cayce, South Carolina. Karl attended and graduated from Brookland Cayce High School. He loved the game of football and played the entire four years of high school. He has books of newspaper clippings from his games. If anyone visited him during the time he was hospitalized they most definitely had to watch "football". Shortly after high school he joined the United States Army. Sgt. West as he  was known, received many medals and awards, several books of them to be exact. His last tour of duty was in Alaska. He loved the military, and was about to become a Drill Sargent. Unfortunately while station in Alaska he became ill and had to retire from active duty. It was often said by family members that he acted like a Drill Sargent. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family we attest. Even when he wasn't feeling his best, during the bad days if asked how he was doing, his response was always, I'm good. He loved Ankara and Karl Jr. and was very appreciative of all their help, time and support they had given him. Through it all; he did not complain. Karl enjoyed listening to gospel music and would often say like the old song writer said, I'm going to run and see what the ends gonna be! When he didn't feel like talking , he loved the song, If i can't say a word, Ill just wave my hand and get right Church and left go Home was another favorite of his. Karl began to get ready on Monday to go home. And early Tuesday morning he did just that. He had a way of getting his point across and to make sure you understood what he was saying. We can imagine when he saw his loved ones again he said, "Listen" to me; listen to me good, I've got a story to tell. Karl was truly a soldier until the end; and is now a soldier in the Army of the Lord.! He leaves to cherish his memories: His mother, Luvenia West a daughter Ankara West, a son Karl, Jr., a sister, Judy (Reggie) Hall,  a brother Bobby Nathaniel West, Sue Richardson (Henry), Ruby (George) Summers, Janie Ruth West, Brenda West Ballard, uncle, George West (Susie), Two grandchildren, Skyler and Mia West, nephews, JC and Tim, great nephews, Eric, Jr. and Christian, Nieces, Audrianna, Tenasia, Hope, Kierra, Timia, M'li and Chrissy who he called "Little Weasel and Zamarion Richmond who was like a grandson. Very Close cousins: Dia, Vernon, Louella, Gertrude, Ronnie and Dwayne...along with an extremely long list of many other relatives and dear friends. .
