Funeral services for Mr. James Lowell Austin 54, will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm January 11, 2020 at the Ridgewood Missionary Baptist Church 5326 Ridgeway Street Columbia, S.C. viewing will be held on Friday from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Pearson's Funeral Home-Chapel 4508 N. Main Street Columbia, SC; James Lowell Austin  passed away uexpectedly on Monday January 6, 2020, at the Prisma Health Baptist Hospital (Formerly Palmetto Health Baptist). He was born on November 21, 1965 in Columbia, SC. He was preceded in death by his father, the late James R. Austin. e is survived by his loving mother, Almetha Thompson; partner, Dr. Anthony E. Morgan; sister, Marquetia C. Thompson; brothers, Daniel M Thompson; Dexter Z. Austin (Mona), Christopher Austin ( Fritzi), Reverend Mark Anthony Austin, and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends and former and current colleagues. James is a 1984 graduate of Eau Clair High School in Richland District One. He attended Miles College in Alabama for tw years. James started working as a transporter at Prisma Health. He then moved on to become a suppley technician. Eager to continue learning, he decided to advance his professional skills by completing his EKG Technician Certification from Midland Technical College and received his EKG traning on-the job at Prisma Health. he later became a EEG Technician 11. He had started working on obtaining his national EEG credential. Occasionally, he would help out in Transportation at Prisma Richland. James accumulated over 20 years working with Prisma Health. While working at SC Mental Health in 1988, he was the Escort Outstanding Mental Health Specialist of the year. Austin was vey fond of his experiences working at SC Department of Mental Health, and was grateful for many friendships he formed with others. In addition to working in the medical field, he he worked as a security officer and was co-owner of his own security company. He was especially proud that his security company was security detail for iconic R&B group, "Boys to Men" when they visteted Columbia, SC. In gratitude to James for five years of loyal and dedicated service, he received a plaque of recognition from Barton Security Services and other security companies until finally deciding to focus entirely on one profession and advancing his education. At a young age, as a member of Boys Scott of America, James learned the importance of giving back. In 2006, he volunteered to "Dooley" for kids Day Columbia. Als, he volunteered in 2013 with Walden University Global Days of Service at Hannah House (Transitional Housing for Women and Children). James professed his life to Christ at an early age. During his younger years of life, he worked in the ministry in several capacities. Although he decided to leave the ministry, he never left God, and lost his faith. James loved working in the yard, watching his favorite television  shows, " Dr. Who," "Star Treck," and cartoons, spending time with friends, and laughing. He had a deep love for animals and fish.
