Service for Mr. Jackson W. Gitonga, 72, of Columbia, South Carolina will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Pearson's Funeral Home-Chapel 4508 N. Main Street Columbia, burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens 10234 Farrow Road Blythewood, South Carolina. Jackson Gitonga Wambugu was born on October 20 1952 in Bahati, Nakuru, Kenya. He was the fourth child of the late David Wambugu Wamguo and the late Edith Wangui Wambugu. Jackson was part of a close knit family and beloved sibling to the late Zipporah Wambui Wamburu, the late Wallace Mwangi Wamburu, Naomi Ngendo Wamburu, the late Gabriel Mukora Wamburu, and Samuel Gichuki Wamburu. Jackson began his educational journey in 1959 at Our Lady of Fatima Primary School, where he completed his elementary education. In 1967 he progressed to Menengai High School to pursue his high school education. In 1971, Jackson joined the University of Nairobi, where he studied for a Bachelor of Science in Entomology. His thirst for knowledge and diverse interests led him to Florida Memorial College in 1975, where he furthered his Criminal Justice and Photography studies. In 1973, Jackson began his professional career as a teaching assistant at the University of Nairobi. The following year, in 1974, he joined the International Center of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) as a research assistant, where he contributed to important scientific studies. In 1980, Jackson ventured into the security field, working with the security team as a freelance photographer His dedication and versatility led him to serve as a security officer. In 2022, Jackson was diagnosed with cancer after being admitted to the hospital. He received treatment and bravely fought the illness, though it led to frequent hospital visit over the years. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated significantly in November 2024, requiring admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he did not recover. On December 11, 2024, Jackson peacefully went to be with the Lord. While his passing deeply saddens us, we remain steadfast in praising the name of the Lord.
