Geneva English Robinson

Graveside services for Mrs. Geneva English Robinson 85, of 111 Pine Plain Road, Gaston, South Carolina will be held on Saturday October 31, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Greater St. Paul AME Church Cemetery 662 Old Wire Road, Gaston, SC; She departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at the Lexington Medical Center. She was affectionately known to her children as MeMe and to many others as Pete. Born in Lexington County, South Carolina on January 29, 1935, she was the eldest daughter of the late Abram C. and Victoria Foster English. Her sister, Vernelle (the late Joe Smith); brothers Rev. Abram C English, Jr. and Roosevelt English; brother-in-law John H. Williams, Sr. preceded her in death. Geneva attended grade school at Clark Hill School and Lakeview High School in West Columbia, South Carolina. She was employed as a domestic worker for many years and early childcare assistant. Her employment included Victory Child Development Center and Smith Day Care. Geneva enjoyed cooking, reading, traveling, and attending church services and activities . Her potato salad, collard greens and dumplings were her specialty and family favorites. Mrs. Robinson joined Greater St. Paul AME Church in her youth where she received Jesus Christ as her Savior where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She attended Bible Study at Kingdom Builders Ministries. She joined Saint John Baptist Church serving there faithfully on several boards including Mother of the Church until her health declined. Geneva was married to the late Willie Robinson. Left to cherish her memories are her loving children: Three daughters, Sylvia E. Courtenay of West Columbia, SC; Wanda R. Phelps of Charlotte, NC; Cheryl R. (Younes) Lakraa of Van Nuys, CA; son Jeffery (Ann) Robinson of Cayce, SC; and step-daughter Willie Mae B. (Milton) Adams of Cayce, SC; eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; three brothers, Henry, Sr. ( Lenora) English; Rev. Joseph (Janis) English and Melvin English all of Gaston, SC; two sisters, Cedelle (James T.) Gates of West Columbia, SC; and Matilda (Clifton) Porterfield of Gaston, SC; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Williams of Gaston, SC; Rosemary English of Aiken, SC; Margaret English of Gaston, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, many loving relatives, and dear friends all whom join the family in rejoicing that she is with the Lord.
