Audrey Wheeler Pearson

Graveside services for Mrs. Audrey Gloria Wheeler Pearson, 91. of Columbia, South  Carolina will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 11:00 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 7100 Garners Ferry Road Columbia, South Carolina.  She was born in the Bronx, New York to the late George H. Wheeler (Papa) and the Katherine Barr Wheeler (Nannie) on September 9, 1931.  She transitioned on September 10. 2022. She just made her 91st birthday. Her children had come to celebrate her birthday but instead celebrated her life. Audrey was quite active in her early years.  She bore five children and proceeded to obtain her Bachelor's degree at SC State College.  There she pledged Delta Sigma Theta, Inc..  She taught special education for five years at Perrin Thomas Elementary School before retiring and becoming a full time housewife.  After her husbands passing, she became the owner and operator of Pearson's Funeral Home and a licensed  funeral director. She was a long standing member of Moles, Inc. and served as president for many years." Audrey Gloria"  as she referred to herself was a wiz at bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs. It always thrilled her to get a "grand slam".  She swore she was the best!  When it came to helping her friends, they never needed to ask, she was always there sharing her wonderful culinary skills with those she loved.  Speaking of skills, Audrey loved to entertain.  She and Bill threw parties that never ended. Some say that she had some of the best parties in the city."  She is survived by her loving five children, who cherished fond family memories. Lidia Pearson (Robert) Davis,  William Pearson, Katherine Pearson Strong, Henry C. Pearson and Robert C.( Sheila) Pearson, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Audrey was married to the late William MacMahan Pearson for thirty two years until his demise.  We will miss her terribly.  She had a presence that demanded your attention.  She was fierce, a force to be reckoned with and a personality like no other.  Our family will miss her dearly.
